Antique 19th Century Victorian 18k Gold Carved Shell Cameo Brooch Sterling Hinge
Gorgeous antique 18k yellow gold carved shell cameo with etched floral filigree designs on the outer frame. The shell is a translucent green color with internal cloudiness. The cameo is a white shade with an almost iridescent shine. I'm not able to identify the stone but it shows up in the center of the amethyst area of the presidium gem tester II, although, it's doubtful that it's green amethyst, but I suppose it's possible. The hinge of the brooch is made of sterling and the pin and c clasp are made of non-precious metals. The pin extends far beyond the c clasp which dates this to the 19th century, in the Victorian era. The brooch is not marked but has been acid tested for purity. It does lighten with 18k acid, but the scratch is still present after several minutes. The brooch measures 20.5mm tall and 17.2mm wide and 25.2mm from the top of the brooch to the tip of the pin.
